What has to be observed when selecting the whirlpool tub location?

Maintenance access: Some whirlpool tub owners clad the area around the tub with tiles or wood. If you wish to fit special panelling, then you should also plan a maintenance entrance. This is because when the whirlpool tub has to be serviced, the maintenance technician may have to remove the equipment compartment door or side panels or access the whirlpool tub from underneath. We also advise you to install the whirlpool tub in such a way that it can be moved or lifted off the ground if necessary.

Access to the circuit breakers: The circuit breakers on the circuit board (permanently connected models) or the disconnecting switch on the end of the power cable (models connected by cable) must be kept free and easily accessible for maintenance purposes.

Electrical safety requirements: Installation of the whirlpool tub must be carried out in accordance with national and local electrical installation regulations. The electrical installation should always be done by an authorised expert. Every Villeroy & Boch whirlpool tub is manufactured and tested according to certain standards that ensure the highest possible protection against electric shock. A faulty electrical connection can impair the operational safety of the whirlpool tub, which could lead to electric shock, injury or death. Furthermore, a faulty electrical connection can lead to maloperation of the whirlpool equipment and a risk of fire. When selecting a location for your whirlpool tub, please consult a qualified electrician for advice on the following electrical issues:

High-voltage power lines (above-ground lines): You must install the whirlpool tub both horizontally and vertically at the stipulated minimum distance from all power lines in accordance with valid national and local electrical installation regulations.

Main switch: A shut-off device must be fitted in the whirlpool tub cabling, depending on the region where you live and in accordance with valid national and local electrical installation regulations. A residual current circuit breaker can be used instead of a main switch, provided it meets the same requirements and the valid national and local electrical installation regulations permit this.

Power sockets, switches and devices: You must install the whirlpool tub at the stipulated minimum distance from all power sockets, switches and electrical devices in accordance with valid national and local electrical installation regulations.

Earth connection: The control system inside the equipment compartment of the whirlpool tub must be connected to all metal devices, railings, housings and pipes/lines located within the stipulated maximum distance in accordance with valid national and local electrical installation regulations. The earth connection must be connected to earth on the outside of the control system box and all above-mentioned metal parts.

Access to the equipment compartment: Make sure the whirlpool tub is positioned so that the equipment compartment is freely accessible.

All other national and local regulations that could be applicable.

Water drainage: Do not install the whirlpool tub in a recess or pit where water can collect and damage the whirlpool tub or its equipment. Select a place where water can flow away from the whirlpool tub. The whirlpool tub has an equipment compartment in which all electrical components are located. If water gets into the equipment compartment, it can damage the electronics or trigger the whirlpool tub circuit breaker. The power cable for the whirlpool tub must be routed so that water cannot reach the disconnecting switch on the power cable.

Using a lifting mechanism for the cover: If you will be using a lifting mechanism for the cover, we recommend leaving a free space of 0.61 m behind the whirlpool tub. Ask your authorised Villeroy & Boch specialist dealer for the exact dimensions if you are planning to use a lifting mechanism.
